Questions & answers
What is the purpose of a speech or language assessment?
A speech or language assessment helps identify your child’s communication strengths and areas where support may be needed. It provides clarity on whether your child’s development is on track and guides the next steps, including therapy recommendations if required.
How long does the assessment take?
Assessment duration varies depending on your child’s age, attention, and specific concerns. Most assessments take 45 to 90 minutes, including time for discussion with parents. In some cases, a second session may be scheduled to ensure accurate results.
Should parents prepare or bring anything for the assessment?
Yes — if available, please bring any medical records, previous assessments, school reports, or developmental documents. You may also bring your child’s favourite toy or comfort item to help them feel relaxed.
Will I receive a written report?
Yes. After the assessment, you will receive a detailed written report that includes findings, interpretation of results, and clear recommendations. This report can also be shared with schools, pediatricians, or other professionals upon request.
What happens after the assessment?
Following the assessment, the therapist will discuss the results with you and recommend a personalized therapy plan if support is needed. You will also receive guidance on home strategies to begin supporting communication right away.
